Copper Theft Training News

11/05/2014The upcoming San Jose Class is the first sponsored class that will be held at San Jose Water company's main facility. This is a huge step in an alliance to coordinate and network with the different agencies that are victims of Metal Theft and other crimes associated with Methamphetamine. We will have guest speakers from several agencies and San Jose Water will give a presentation on how to partner up with local law enforcement to combat these crimes, recover stolen items and prevent future thefts. It is a big step in the willingness to help with a coordinated Statewide effort. Big thanks to San Jose Water for making this happen.

08/03/2013This month we held a class in Modesto at the Modesto Police Department. Del Unruh, PG&E Investigator, gave a great presentation regarding the new Southwire copper cable used by PG&E that has serial codes that can prove ownership for prosecution. We also had a former Deputy Chief, Kevin Batchelor from the California State Division of Measurement Standards (Weights and Measures) who gave us valuable information regarding the work that they have done in the past to help local law enforcement agencies. Great networking and thanks to Modesto Police Department for hosting the class, we were able to share our knowledge and experience with the Central Valley.
06/26/2013This month we held classes at Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office and HIDTA LA CLEAR in Los Angeles. Both groups of students were very focused and driven because they were surrounded by like minded investigators being educated together. East Bay Mud and PG&E attended Contra Costa Class, while Edison and Department of Toxic Substances Control attended LA CLEAR. Both classes made very strong connections, and these connections will continue in the fight to stop the cycle of metal theft. “The more people educated the better off we are” – Contra Costa Class
